An Environment Designed for Comfort
The Oaks is a distinct part of our community, thoughtfully arranged to feel smaller, more controlled, and reassuringly familiar. The environment is modified to promote safety and to minimize confusion and overstimulation, and it includes:
- Secured setting with 24/7 staffing
- Engagement Stations – such as a Post Office, Laundry Co., and other interactive spaces that invite residents to do the meaningful things they’ve always done
- Daily activities matched to each resident’s cognitive ability, memory, attention span, language, reasoning, and physical function
We also offer short-term respite stays and accept most long-term care insurance policies, including Veterans Aid & Attendance. From morning and evening routines to transfer assistance and fitness programs, we prioritize the physical and emotional needs of every resident.

The Oaks Gated Community: A Specialized Approach
At the heart of our memory care philosophy is The Oaks – a thoughtful Journey to Wellness model created for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease, related dementias, and other cognitive impairments. The program is designed to be neuroprotective and functional, and to combat the loneliness, helplessness, and boredom that can accompany memory loss.
Our team includes trained behavioral health specialists – a Behavioral Health Manager, a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (NP), and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) – providing a higher standard of training and understanding for those facing memory challenges.
The oak tree symbolizes three qualities that shape everything we do:
- Providence – having wisdom and insight. We incorporate extraordinary, evidence-informed interventions to support people with dementia or related disorders.
- Utility – the state of being useful. Our model is habilitative in nature, designed to make capable and to support each resident’s strengths.
- Strength – the capacity to withstand forces. Resistance is key to neuro-protection, and our programming is built to help residents stay engaged and active.
The Oaks is built around five key areas that guide how we care for every resident:
- Care Coordination – staff collaboratively assess, plan, and provide care consistent with best-practice dementia care principles.
- Staff KSA (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities) Competency – our team holds the qualifications, skills, training, and education to assess and care for residents with cognitive impairment or related disorders.
- Activity Programming Based on Abilities – activities are matched to each resident’s cognitive ability, memory, attention span, language, reasoning, and physical function.
- Behavior Management – we emphasize non-pharmacological interventions as an alternative to psychoactive medications whenever possible.
- Safe and Supportive Physical Environment – the community is modified to promote safety and to minimize confusion and overstimulation.
Comprehensive Behavioral Health Programs
The Oaks offers an exhaustive behavioral health program that includes treatment for both neuroscience and mental health disorders.
Neuroscience Program. We promote wellness for major neurocognitive disorders where we can impact executive function, complex attention, language, learning, memory, perceptual-motor, and social cognition. For those in severe decline, the wellness program follows the seven stages of cognitive decline, supporting a continuum from supported decision-making to substituted decision-making.
Mental Health Program. We promote wellness by focusing on psychopathology, DSM diagnostics, a strengths perspective, bio-psycho-social assessments, and psychotropic medications. From the behavioral health perspective, this program identifies the function behind a specific behavior – the purpose or reason driving it – so we gain insight into motivation and how to respond appropriately.
A Holistic, Engaging Lifestyle
Connection and socialization are essential for wellness, especially for those living with memory loss. Through our Engagement Stations and ability-based programming, residents are invited to take part in small-group experiences, sensory activities, and the familiar everyday moments that inspire joy and preserve important life abilities.
Whether it’s sorting mail at the Post Office, folding linens at the Laundry Co., a guided exercise class, or simply sharing a meal together, every interaction is a chance to build confidence, encourage self-sufficiency, and strengthen community.
